Colorado Springs Utilities

Colorado Springs Utilities is the latest and largest city-owned utility to implement The Broadband Group’s Utility Lease Model™. The citywide fiber network will enhance customer service capabilities and serve as a foundation for future grid modernization and operational needs. At the same time, spare fiber capacity will enable high-speed Internet access across every corner of Colorado Springs. Once complete, the network will pass more than 200,000 addresses, bringing modern fiber infrastructure to all of Colorado Springs Utilities’ residential and business customers.

Assignment

The Broadband Group partnered closely with the Utility to guide every aspect of the program’s development—from comprehensive financial scenario modeling and business case validation to network design consultation and the identification of a long-term anchor tenant. Durning network deployment, TBG Network Services has been tasked with construction oversite and ongoing engineering support.

Achievements

In January 2022, Ting Internet was announced as the network’s anchor tenant and will offer broadband services to both residential and business customers. Network construction broke ground in October 2022, and Ting began delivering service to customers in August 2023.
