City of Dana Point
The City of Dana Point engaged The Broadband Group to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of its existing wired and wireless broadband infrastructure. The scope of work included identifying strategies to improve citywide wireless connectivity and recommending effective approaches for fiber deployment that take into account Dana Point’s complex topography and commitment to preserving its natural beauty and visual character.

Development Name: City of Dana Point
Client Since: 2022
Assignment
The Broadband Group assisted in drafting and revising the City’s wireless ordinances, including recommendations to consolidate outdated macro-cell and small cell regulations into a single, streamlined framework. This effort also supported the creation of a centralized “Wireless” section on the City’s website to improve transparency and provide easier access to permitting and design standards.
TBG introduced updated microtrenching specifications and fiber deployment guidelines to support cost-effective underground infrastructure while balancing service provider investment goals with the City’s asset protection priorities.
In collaboration with SmartWave, a high-quality outdoor Wi-Fi network was designed and implemented using palm trees as mounting structures for access points, an innovative approach that preserved community aesthetics while delivering reliable wireless connectivity.
