As Americans spend more and more time online using multiple devices, higher-speed internet connections are shifting from a luxury to a necessity, panelists said at the ULI Fall Meeting in Chicago.

Americans are spending up to five hours per day on the internet, panelists noted. Sites providing video streaming, gaming, online education, and telemedicine require greater bandwidth. Services requiring higher-speed internet can also enhance security and energy management features that save homeowners money. (more…)

Broadband Communities Magazine Names Jeffrey M. Reiman President

President, Broadband Communities Magazine

NEW YORK  (Jan 28, 2013) —  Jeffrey M. Reiman, a broadband strategist who recently raised millions in broadband stimulus funding for fiber-based networks across the country, has been named president of Broadband Communities, a magazine publishing and conference company with a mission of “building a fiber-connected world.” He is slated to also become CEO later in 2013.

Since 2009, Reiman has been the head of strategic planning and governmental affairs for The Broadband Group, a Las Vegas-based consulting firm, where he worked nationwide to incorporate fiber-based broadband networks, applications, and services into community infrastructure plans.

Scott DeGarmo, Broadband Communities’ CEO and the majority owner since 2004, noted: “Jeff knows the companies, the technologies and the metrics of the industry.” DeGarmo added: “His valuable experience will help the company serve our existing customers, create new product lines and transition into digital publishing.” (more…)

City of Las Vegas: Symphony Park Announcement

Las Vegas, NV – The Broadband Group, a national Telecommunications Consulting Firm announced today it has been selected by Newland Communities, Symphony Park development manager for the city of Las Vegas, to direct, lead and manage the telecommunications, telemetry, energy and system control elements of the mixed use development in Las Vegas. The city of Las Vegas and Newland Communities are currently developing Symphony Park, a 61- acre mixed-use urban community located in the heart of downtown Las Vegas. At Symphony Park, sustainability is a guiding principle for the plan and development overall. Symphony Park was chosen as the only Nevada community to be part of the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED®-ND) green building rating system.
